Welcome to Britain Builders
Introducing Britain Builders - a discovery and collaboration platform for the UK's civic tech ecosystem. Find projects, connect with builders, and help fix Britain.
Britain has a rich ecosystem of civic tech projects, from parliamentary transparency tools to local activism platforms. But if you’re a builder wanting to contribute, it’s hard to know where to start. What projects exist? Which ones need help? Who else is building in this space?
Mission Control for UK Civic Tech
Britain Builders is our answer to these questions. It’s a discovery and collaboration platform that brings together:
- 150+ civic tech projects across 15 categories (parliament, local democracy, activism, and more)
- Real-time ecosystem health tracking via GitHub activity and health scores
- Open tasks aggregation showing where projects need help right now
- Community connections to 500+ builders via X Community and WhatsApp groups
Why Now?
The UK civic tech ecosystem is thriving but fragmented. MySociety has been running parliamentary transparency tools for 20 years. Democracy Club powers election infrastructure. Dozens of local activism tools help communities organize. But there’s no central place to see the full picture.
We built Britain Builders to change that.
What Makes It Different?
Most project directories are static lists that go stale. Britain Builders is different:
- Living Data: Weekly GitHub scraping keeps project health scores and open issues fresh
- Gap Mapping: We identify missing tools the ecosystem needs
- Chat Assistant: Ask “What civic tech projects focus on housing?” and get instant answers
- Builder-First: Every project shows how you can help, whether code, design, or policy expertise
Get Involved
Ready to build? Here’s how to start:
- Browse all projects by category
- Check open tasks across the ecosystem
- Join the community on X or WhatsApp
- Claim an ecosystem gap and start building
Britain won’t fix itself. But together, we can build the tools it needs.
